Particle Inertial Focusing in Spiral Channel of Tapered Cross-Section

Abstract Inertial microfluidic technology is widely used for microparticle manipulation (e.g., particle/cell separation and focusing). This paper proposes a novel spiral channel of the tapered cross-section to realize high-efficiency microbeads different sizes. The bonded thin PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane) membrane create cross-section, air pressure applied deform membrane. inertial focusing performance investigated by using polystyrene fluorescent diameters. experimental results show that 15 μm experience strong lift force migrate inner wall, while 6 are influenced dominating Dean vortex move outer resulting in successful two microbeads. unique advantage distance between large small can be regulated working pressure, big gap ~ 305 achieved under 30 kPa. We hold opinion proposed device will provide insights cell enrichment.
